The best Antivirus I have ever used October 22, 2009 Paul Ferguson (Glasgow, Scotland) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have used Norton (many years ago) and AVG Free in the past, and both of them have had their upsides and downsides. The fact that AVG Free is... well, free... obviously that's a big plus for people, but at the same time, the software was fussy and often slow. Norton sucked up resources left right and centre, and required any number of tweaks just to let a program run without it interfering. But very soon after installing Kaspersky, I was transported to a magical world where Anti-Virus sits in its corner and does what it's supposed to without needing your attention every two minutes.
The software installed quickly and without any hassle, and instantly started working thanks to its resident shield. I can't say for sure it's better than its competitors, but it caught and killed three trojans within a day that Windows Defender had alerted me about repeatedly for a week, and AVG simply didn't notice until I pointed it in the right direction, and even then it couldn't get rid of them. It has also caught several email attachments that AVG did not notice were sitting in Thunderbird's junk folder. A (very quick) "quick scan" and a "vulnerability scan" alerted me to several other issues that I had not previously been aware of.
A full scan took a while, but it was dealing with a lot of files, and actually it didn't pick up anything that wasn't found in the quick scan. It also quietly updates its database while in the background, so your protection is always up to date. A quick check in the Windows Task Manager puts the background memory usage during browsing at between about 4MB and 12MB depending on activity, which is entirely reasonable.
It sits in its corner, and notifies you if there is a potential problem. If it's something you know not to be a problem, it gives you the option to exclude it, or accept it this one time. Simple.
Based on my experience with the software so far, I'm pretty much sold on Kaspersky's effectiveness, and sure it costs more than AVG, but in my experience, it has already done a much better job. This, plus Malwarebytes, and I'm pretty much set. Highly recommended.
Kaspersky Anti-Virus August 14, 2010 H This really is a very good buy at a bargain price,it is easy to install and to use.The computer is well protected.
Get some protection... October 20, 2009 Milt Ingarfield (Arbroath, Scotland) Up until recently I have always used the free edition of AVG which I thought gave enough protection this was until I had a conversation with a friend who was a computer tech (sadly he is no longer with us) he informed I should really think about getting some real protection for my computer system on line I asked him what should I buy and he didn't even miss a breathe and immediately recommended I get my hands on "Kaspersky" Anti-Virus.
This I have done with a little advice from him on how to install this software over the phone, I had a few problems as Kaspersky I found would not install if there was any trace of the free AVG download I had been using so after using "reg edit" through "Tune-up utilities" I was able to remove the offending files that was the only down-side I have found with this product that and the way it slows down the computer when booting up and when the updates are running my P.C. does slow down a bit but once the updates are done the speed returns to normal, the actual protection I gives me is superb from I.D. protection and protection from virus, Trojans, spy-ware and ad-ware and other infections such infections attached to downloads and of course your e-mails etc, etc.etc.
So thanks to my late friend (Ron) for pointing me in the direction of this product and help to install this software this has been my experience using this item and as I am just a mere normal user and not a I.T. expert, so please bare with my lack of I.T. description...
Excellent as always October 15, 2009 Mark Regan (Cumbria) Excellent product, rock solid, easy to use and never has been a system hog over the last 3 years that I have been using Kaspersky. 2010 is my personal choice for anti-virus and I would recommend it to anyone.
Great build as awlays September 17, 2009 Mr. K. P. Rogers (London, UK) I have used Kapersky software for quite sometime, and have always found it easy to use and comprehensive. This is just the AntiVirus software, so you'll still need a firewall (Kapersky do offer a comprehensive internet security package which takes care of everything), but if all you require is Anti-Virus, then this will be fine. With frequent updates available, the software keeps itself up to date without hogging your computer's resources. It's very easy to use, and moreorless looks after itself.
